Which Class 4 shingle is best for Conroe?

Will a Class 4 roof survive any hail?
No. It's tested with a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet — roughly a 2-inch hailstone — and it takes that without cracking. Softball hail will damage anything. What Class 4 does is turn the quarter- and half-dollar hail that totals a standard roof into a non-event.
Do you still install three-tab shingles?
Only when matching an existing three-tab roof for a repair. For a new roof, architectural shingles cost a little more and last a lot longer; three-tab isn't worth it here.
Why do my neighbor's shingles have black streaks?
That's Gloeocapsa magma — algae that feeds on the limestone filler in shingles and thrives in the shade under pine trees. Algae-resistant shingles have copper-infused granules that stop it. We use them by default on any roof with tree cover.
How long will a shingle roof last in Conroe?
