Hail & storm damage

Hail and storm damage roofing for Conroe and Montgomery County

Hail season runs March through June here, and then hurricane season picks up where it left off. We inspect with chalk and a camera, tarp what's open, and give you a written report your adjuster will recognize.

Close-up of hail bruises and granule loss on an asphalt shingle roof with chalk circles marking the hits

A hailstone the size of a quarter, falling at 60 miles an hour, doesn't tear a shingle — it bruises it. The granules knock loose, the asphalt mat underneath cracks, and for a few months the roof looks perfectly fine. Then the sun does its work on the exposed mat, the bruise becomes a soft spot, and by the second summer it's a leak. That's why a hail inspection isn't a glance from the driveway: we walk every slope, circle the hits in chalk in a test square, count them, photograph the soft metals (vents, gutters, the AC fins) that prove the hail size, and write it all down.

Wind is the other half. Hurricane Beryl put 69-mph gusts on Conroe on July 8, 2024, and the derecho of May 16, 2024 hit the north side of the metro harder than that. Wind creases shingles and breaks their seal without necessarily removing them, so the damage compounds storm after storm. We check the seal on the windward slopes, note every crease, and if the roof is open anywhere, we get a tarp on it the same day — any hour — and take it from there in daylight.

What you get is a damage report with photos, a diagram of the roof with the hit counts per slope, and a straight answer about whether it's worth a claim. If it is, we'll meet your adjuster on the roof and build the estimate to the scope your carrier approves. If it isn't, we'll tell you that too, and you've spent nothing.

Questions we get about hail & storm damage

How do I know if I have hail damage?

From the ground, you often don't. Look at the soft metals first: dents in the gutters, the roof vents, the AC condenser fins, the mailbox, the car. If those are dented, the shingles are bruised. Then look for granules in the gutters and downspout splash blocks — a lot of them after one storm means the roof took hits. We'll walk it for free and show you the chalk.

How long do I have to file a claim in Texas?

Most Texas homeowner policies give you one year from the date of loss, and some carriers have moved to shorter windows for wind and hail — read the declarations page. Beryl was July 8, 2024 and the derecho was May 16, 2024; if your roof was never inspected after either, do it now rather than finding out at the deadline.

Will my insurance pay for a whole new roof?

If the adjuster finds enough hail hits per test square (most carriers use 8 to 10 per 100 square feet) or enough wind damage on a slope, the roof is typically replaced. Whether you get replacement cost or actual cash value depends on your policy — many Texas carriers have moved roofs to ACV or a roof age schedule in the last few years. We read the policy with you before the adjuster comes.

Can you waive my deductible or 'work with' it?

No. Texas Business & Commerce Code §27.02 makes that a crime for the contractor, and your carrier can withhold the recoverable depreciation until you show you paid it. Anyone offering a free roof is offering you a denied claim.

The storm chasers already knocked. Should I sign?

Don't sign anything on the porch. After every Montgomery County hailstorm, out-of-state crews work the neighborhoods with contingency agreements that lock you to them before you've seen a price. Get your own inspection, read your policy, and choose your roofer after the adjuster has been out. Ask any roofer — us included — for a Texas certificate of insurance and local references.

Do you handle the whole claim for me?

We document, we meet the adjuster, we build the estimate and we do the roof. We don't negotiate coverage on your behalf — in Texas that's public adjusting, which requires a separate license. If your claim is underpaid, we'll give you the documentation and point you toward a licensed public adjuster.

Hail season starts in March. Get the roof looked at first.
